Extremely rare shipyard builders half model of the United States Lighthouse Service Lighthouse Tender Juniper. Launched in 1939 just before the USLHS became The United States Coast Guard. The Juniper was designated a Coastal Buoy Tender, WLM 224. She became the rough prototype for the 180 foot class of ocean going buoy tenders, designated WLB. The WLM 224 JUNIPER operated out of St Petersburg Florida and served the Gulf Coast including FORT JEFFERSON NATIONAL MONUMENT. The half model is in its original varnish clearly displaying all of the hull plating details. Fine patina , original backboard which is gilded " U. S. L. H. TENDER JUNIPER" BACKBOARD IS 46 LONG BY 13 TALLIn the late 1930s, the USLHS constructed the second Juniper. The USLHS was absorbed into the Coast Guard in 1939, and the Juniper was designated a Coastal Buoy Tender, WLM 224. WLM 224 was a twin screw (propeller), diesel electric vessel. She became the rough prototype for the 180' class of ocean-going buoy tenders, designated WLB. The WLM 224 Juniper operated out of St. Petersburg, Florida. She serviced aids to navigation all along the gulf coast of Florida, including Fort Jefferson National Monument. Juniper was decommissioned in 1975.[2]" BACKBOARD IS 46 LONG BY 13 TALL
