AN ANTIQUE CELESTIAL MAP, "Theoria Planetarum Primariarum," NUREMBERG, 1716-1724, hand colored engraving on paper, a page fragment from Atlas Coelestis, plate number 4, after Johann Homann (1664-1724) and after works presented by astronomer Johann Gabriel Doppelmayr (1677-1750) for scientific publication by the academic society Academiae Caesareae Leopoldino-Carolinae Naturae Curiosorum, showing the Copernican System using Kepler's elliptical model, drawing from works by mathematicians and astronomers Seth Ward (English 1617-1689), Ismaël Ballialdus (French 1605-1694), and Nicholas Mercator (English 1620-1687) which are illustrated and the trigonometry mathematics fleshed out in full detail in Latin. 19 1/2" x 23" Provenance: Property from a Corporate Art Collection.
Condition
Larger stain upper right, some toning, occasional spots and possible foxing, some waving and handling creases, joined paper as issued, but overall in good to very good condition, wear commensurate with age.
