Item Details
Description
This lot consists of an oil painting on board, done in the Naturalist style of Winfield Scott Clime (American, 1881-1958). A handwritten inscription at lower right corner reads, "Clime 1914". This framed piece measures approximately 16.75" x 19.75", with an approximate image sight of 10.5" x 13.5".

A gorgeous depiction of the American landscape: air, color, space, and form unite in a stunning artistic display. Idyllic clouds, rolling mountains, and cool tones create a uniquely impressive effect. This piece would be an exceptional addition to any collection!

Reverse side of this attractive painting features a partial paper label, as well as a handwritten graphite inscription, which reads as follows: "Colorado. Near Fraser. July 5th, 1914. Looking east toward mountains of Continental Divide."

Winfield Scott Clime (American, 1881-1958) was a painter of anecdotal country dwellings and rural activities. Clime and his fellow landscape artist, Charles Seaton, began going on "painting outings" together early in the 20th century. By 1916, their numbers had grown, and the group took to calling themselves the Ramblers. In 1919, the organization was formally renamed the Landscape Club of Washington and continues to be a thriving painter's society to this day.
