**First Time At Auction**

Papua New Guinea, Sepik River region, ca. early 20th century CE. A large hand-carved bowl fashioned from a globular coconut shell. The base is stable albeit slightly rounded, its gradually-widening walls tapering to a thin rim, exposing the cavernous interior. Intricate geometric motifs adorn the exterior surface in low-relief, with a singular abstract lizard being the main recognizable focal point. All designs were originally colored using a dark-brown pigment, though age-related wear has exposed the natural chocolate-brown color beneath. Size: 4.5" H (11.4 cm).

Provenance: ex-private Tucson, Arizona, USA collection; ex-Ron Perry collection; Ron Perry collected art and artifacts for more than 40 years in New Guinea and the South Pacific. He collaborated with Carolyn Leigh to write a book entitled, "Art Dealer in the Last Unknown: Ron Perry & New Guinea Art: the early years 1964-1972" (2011)
