Christian Von Schneidau (Swedish-born American, 1893-1976), oil painting of a Revolutionary War scene, ca. 1915 to 1930 CE. Estate stamped at lower left. A wonderful oil painting of a group of Revolutionary War soldiers dressed in blue coats and situated in a trench, some operating a canon, others looking on and preparing for battle. Von Schneidau's expressive brushstrokes and vibrant palette capture this wartime scene in his signature California Impressionist style. Size: 16.24" W x 9.375" H (41.2 cm x 23.8 cm); 21" W x 14" H (53.3 cm x 35.6 cm) including frame

Christian Von Schneidau's works have been published in the definitive "California Impressionism" (William Gerdts & Will South, 1998); "Artists in California, 1786-1940" (Edan Milton Hughes, 1989); as well as exhibition catalogue "Southern California Artists 1890-1940" (Laguna Beach Museum of Art, 1979).

Born in Smoland, Sweden, von Schneidau immigrated to the US in 1906. He studied under Reynolds and Buehr at the AIC and with H.M. Walcott, C.W. Hawthorne, and Richard Miller in the East. In 1917, he moved to Los Angeles where he founded the Von Schneidau School of Fine Art. During the 1940s he taught at the Businessmen's Art Institute in Los Angeles and spent two years in Alaska in the 1950s.
