American Civil War to Indian Wars Chasseur-Style Kepi Cap
c. 1860-1870's American Civil War to American Indian Wars Period, U.S. Military Chasseur-Style Kepi Cap, Gold bullion embroidered Federal Infantry Bugle and an "8" (8th Regiment), Fine.
This original American Civil War to Indian Wars Period U.S. Military Chasseur-Style Kepi Cap, measures about 7.75" x 5.75". A good example with dark blue/black wool with (3) rows of black silk quatrefoil on crown, black leather brim (chin strap missing), brass "Eagle" buttons, sewn-in lining with scattered small loses. The sweatband's stitching has come apart in sections as well as sections of the stitching that holds the visor in place. Major moth damage. Gold bullion embroidered Federal Infantry Bugle and an "8" (8th Regiment). Sewn in label with; "J. H. McKenney & Co. Military Goods, 141 Grand Street, New York", (c. 1860-1864), "Veteran City Guard Battalion". All original, with no restoration. Note; much Civil War period gear was reused in the Plains Indian Wars.
