Circa 1820, likely Midlands of South Carolina. The upper case having a hinged lid opening to compartment within the fall front opening to fitted interior. The lower case having an unusual side drawer at the right and left hand of the case, all resting atop turned legs. The secondary wood is tulip poplar throughout. The piece having been used in a prominent plantation home during the period in Lower Richland County, South Carolina. The piece was purchased by the current owner during a real estate transaction from the original family.
