Description
Oil on canvas portrait attributed John Wesley Jarvis (1780-1840). Portrait of Eva Van Cortlandt White (1736-1836). Subject has auburn hair and is dressed in lace cap and collar with black shawl. Eva Van Cortlandt of New York married Mr. Henry White (see related lot #325) and they had seven children. One daughter, Margaret, married Peter Jay Munro, ancestor of present owner of portrait. Portrait provenance documented by Frick Art Museum. Molded giltwood frame. Overall good condition with cracquelure throughout and minor paint loss. Framed: 30-1/2" W x 36" H, Sight: 24" W x 29-1/2" H. American, circa 1830. Provenance: Collection of Reverend Henry Munro Bruen, Knoxville, TN.
