Group related to Christian Niederhauser, including:
Carte-de-visite (CDV) of Christian Niederhauser holding a pistol across his chest and a rifle at his side. A second pistol is in his belt. Inscription on verso reads, “Grandpa Niederhauser as he looked during the civil war.” No imprint.
1864 dated letter written in German on the back of a colored lithograph. Two pages. Niederhauser says that he is well and that the city of Savannah is conquered. He expresses the desire that Richmond will soon fall so that he can “come home at last.” Please see eighth photo listed for a scan of the letter’s full transcription. Christian Niederhauser (sometimes “Neihouse,” Niehaus, or “Newhouse”) served in the 8th, 80th, and 165th Ohio Infantry regiments.
