Description
Classic Rookwood Pottery ewer by Maria Longworth Nichols decorated with a dozen bats flying past a full moon done in 1882. Done in Dull Finish on yellow clay, the ewer has an intricately decorated neck, shoulder and handle with die stamp designs in the manner of Fanny Auckland. The bats emerge from a stand of tall grasses with fired on gold highlights. Impressed marks include Rookwood in block letters, the date, shape number 101 and Y for yellow clay. Mrs. Nichols initials are incised in the bottom. Height is 12 inches. Professional restoration to the spout.
