Description
O.H. Perry ( August 23, 1785 - August 23, 1819). Shown sitting on the deck of his ship with the flag/banner in background ,"don't give up the ship". U.S. naval officer who became a national hero when he defeated a British squadron in the Battle of Lake Erie in the War of 1812. Died : Trinidad , Rank : Commodore Place of burial : Island Cemetery , Newport , Rhode Island. Battle cry of O.H.Perry was "Don't give up the ship". When he defeated the British fleet at the Battle of Lake Erie , his famous message to his commander : "We have met the enemy and they are ours". Image 5 1/2" by 7 1/2", frame 13" by 15".
