Description
An Eastern Mediterranean amphoriskos, c. 6th - 5th Century BC, with wide pedestal foot, constricted neck and two small handles which connect from the shoulder to a tall ridge at the base of the mouth. Around the top of the shoulder in dark slip are arrows radiating outward from the neck. H: 4 3/8 in (11.1 cm). Cf. Hayes, Greek and Italian Black-Gloss Ware and Related Wares in the Royal Ontario Museum (Toronto, 1984), no. 50 & 55 for similar examples; Ex Dr. Gilles collection, Germany, acquired in the 1960's.
