Description
A fine La Selva tripod bowl from Costa Rica, c. AD 400 - 700, standing on a trio of hollow legs, each adorned with an emerging stylized zoomorphic creature that is surmounted with a bird pecking its head. Under the broadly flared rim there is a band of human faces with incised features. H: 4 3/4 in (12 cm). Heavy mineral deposits. Cf. 'Art of Costa Rica from the Arthur M. Sackler Collections', page 222. Ex San Francisco private estate.
