Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Manabi province, Jamacoaque, (Jama Coaque) culture, ca. 500 CE. The Jama Coaque culture of the Pacific coast of Ecuador is known for its pottery, especially highly adorned, mold-made human figures of elite status such as this example. This finely rendered figure depicts a standing female wearing a grand headdress and a long skirt or tunic-like garment. What's more, she is bedecked with jewelry. Traces of blue-green pigment remain on the headdress. Size: 5.125" H (13 cm)
