Tanaka Hisashige, brass traveling folding pricket, Tanaka Hisashige (Japanese, 1799-1881), c. 1830s, known as an Okitanni Shokudai or pocket candle stand, with collapsible hinge construction, stamped mark on base corner, .5"h x 4"squ (folded), 13"h (expanded)

Notes/Literature: From Wikipedia: Tanaka Hisashige was a Japanese rangaku scholar, engineer and inventor during the Bakumatsu and early Meiji period in Japan. In 1875, he founded what became the Toshiba Corporation. He has been called the "Thomas Edison of Japan"
