Description
This is a superb map of Poland, Lithuania, most of Latvia, Belarus, Ukraine, Slovakia, parts of Czech Republic, Hungary, Moldova and Russia. The map is colored outlined by provinces, at the height of Poland's territorial reach. It extends from Riga to nearly the Black Sea and from Vienna(e) on the west to Mos(k)ow on the east. Some other towns shown include Vilnius (Vilna), Gdansk (Dantzik), Warsaw (Warsovie), Krakow (Cracovie), Kiev (Kiovie), Minsk(i) and many more. The French title references the map sources as S Starovolski, whose first atlas of Poland was published in 1720; Le Vasseur de Beauplan, a Norman engineer who served the King of Poland during the 17th century; C Hartknoch, author of a map of Prussia and J Hevelius, the famous Polish astronomer and geographer. This was published by Covens & Mortier, after De L'Isle 1703 map version.
