Description
**First Time At Auction**
Central Asia, Nepal, ca. second half of the 19th century CE. A hand-carved wooden guardian figure depicted squatting atop an integral circular plinth. The figure has its legs drawn up to its hips and has a slender abdomen as well as curved shoulders and steepled hands just beneath its chin. The blocky head bears recessed eyes, a flush nose, and a slender mouth beneath the rounded pate. Guardian figures like this are typically found in or around dwellings in Nepal to ward against disease, evil spirits, or other malevolent forces. Custom wooden display stand included. Size: 3.5" W x 14.5" H (8.9 cm x 36.8 cm); 15.3" H (38.9 cm) on included custom stand.

Small losses to base, body, and head, with several stable hairline fissures, and one significant fissure on the face. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
