Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A colorful textile coca bag composed of tightly woven camelid wool fibers dyed in maroon, aqua, brown, and cream hues. The rectangular bag has a wide opening on top and flexible walls decorated with inversely corresponding stepped motifs within solid blue bars. The bottom is embellished with a lengthy fringe with colors corresponding to the wall decorations above. Size (bag): 10.375" W x 8.75" H (26.4 cm x 22.2 cm); (w/ fringe): 22.5" H (57.2 cm)
Provenance: ex-private C. Webster collection, Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA, acquired before 2000
