Oliver Wolcott Jr. Signed Pay Order for Colonel Lamb's Regiment

1p, measuring 8.125" x 6.5", State of Connecticut, dated September 26, 1783. A pay order acknowledging the receipt of £7"2 shillings by George Dixon, for service in Lamb's Regiment. Signed by George Dixon with his mark and witnessed by William Moseley. An additional note has been written at the lower margin by Oliver Wolcott, Jr. (1760-1833), son of Declaration of Independence signer Oliver Wolcott (1726-1797). His note reads: "N:B: the Bala. due to George Dixon was £8"2. [Illegible] that 2d remained to be drawn. O Walcott." With docketing on verso. Flattened folds with light edge toning. Slightly uneven edges.

Lamb's Regiment, more formerly known as the 2nd Continental Artillery Regiment, was raised on January 1, 1777 and led by Colonel John Lamb (1735-1800). It saw service at the battles of Trenton, Princeton, Ridgefield, the Philadelphia Campaign, Monmouth, Springfield, and finally the Siege of Yorktown. Oliver Wolcott Jr. served as the second Secretary of the Treasury, following the death of Alexander Hamilton, and later as the 24th Governor of Connecticut.
