**First Time At Auction**
Western / Southern Europe, near Italy, Late Bronze Age, ca. 10th to 9th century BCE. A nice example of a utilitarian bronze axe head of a minimalist form with a broad, trapezoidal blade emanating from in front of the ovoid socketing shaft. The vertical blade edge indicates this axe head was used for shaping and carving rather than maiming and killing. Mottled brown and green patina has formed across the tool. Size: 6.9" L x 3.25" H (17.5 cm x 8.3 cm)
Provenance: ex-estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, acquired before 2000
