Scarce reference book used for historically accurate and authentic painting of miniature soldiers. Large format book with over 200 full-color pages of illustrations of soldiers in colorful uniforms from many periods over the past couple of hundred years. This book was owned by a man who had literally hundreds of sets of miniature soldiers. He had a world-class collection and used the book as a visual aid to attain accurate detail of the uniforms. The first 174 pages in the book are descriptive text with a few black line drawings of soldiers. I'm pretty sure the text (which is in German) refers to more details about the uniforms of the different soldiers. The final 200 pages are illustrations in full color. Das Ehrenfield Des Soldaten (Eine Rulturgeschichte Der Uniform Von Ihren Unfangen Bis Zur Fegenwart by Martin Lezius. Published 1936 in Berlin (first thus). This book has no major faults. It is clean, solidly bound with sound hinges and very presentable-appearing on the shelf. It is a book in the condition that serious collectors look for. The interior pages are clean and complete with just a hint of toning around the edges. There is an owner's ink stamp on the half-title and title page. I've been selling books for ten years--this book is in the condition I hope to find older, used books in. The book is in German but it's the illustrations which are important. I believe the book is a first edition because the top page edges are dyed dark blue which is a common method used by publishers on first editions. 416 pages. 8.75 x 11.25.
