Description
Metal sculpture by postwar Irish sculptor John Coll(b.1956,20th century). 12 inches by 9 inches by 20 inches. One interesting thing about this sculpture is if you hit the tall metal sticks with a wood stick, you hear Cathedral bells.
Davids notes: Coll worked in two different styles, a more traditional style of bronze busts in the vein of Sir Jacob Epstein, and a more radical welded style that has more in common with Harry Bertoia. There are two figures on a rectangular base, with large reed like stalks curving up to the sky. The musical element must have been known to Coll(the fact you hear Cathedral bells when you tap the stalks), because he often portrayed bronzes of musicians.
Signed Coll on the base.
