Description

Title: Early Medallion Quilt with Birds & Flowers

Provenance/Additional Info: 1860's cotton medallion quilt, hand appliqued and hand quilted with extensive hand embroidery, multiple swag borders, and tiny stuffed berries in the center near the birds. It measures 74" X 90" and is in very good condition, with a few small age spots, very subtle unevenness in some of the colored flowers, and a couple of scuffs along the binding edge. The quilt feels strong and sturdy overall. The quilting is top notch, with quilting around the applique and in dense, detailed leaf, vine, bird and other designs in the background, all at 10-12 stitches to the inch. The back and hand stitched binding are white, and the batting is thin. There is cheddar piping along the binding.
