Detailed Item Description: This RIAA Gold award is presented to Atlantic Records, who distributed Rolling Stones Records releases.

This is a first presentation RIAA Gold LP award that would have been manufactured in 1981, since this "floater" style award was produced from 1975-81 and the album was certified Gold in '81. That makes this award 38 years old.

The award is in VG condition with some frame wear. Its backing paper appears unopened and original and sticker residue is present in the typical location and shape of a New York Frame & Picture Co. manufacturer sticker.

Interesting Union Jack engraved into "dead wax" area of gold disc (see image). All visible internal components appear original and unaltered. Has some wear on the frame showing some reddish primer through in areas and some typical scratches, along with a slightly faded matte (see photos).

Notable sales on similar items: A RIAA 45 single award for the Rolling Stones' "Miss You" presented to Record World (a much less desirable presentation for collectors) was sold on Nov. 3, 2018 for $1,125 via a well-known U.S. auction house. Contact us if interested and we can provide you the third party source of that information.^

Notes on the condition of all vintage RIAA awards like this one: Please do not buy this item if you want a brand new piece of memorabilia. These are historical artifacts from the year they were produced. As a result they may show signs of wear. Frankly, if you see a 20 to 50-year-old award purported to be in 100% perfect condition, it might be too good to be true. After all, an antique should have "good' wear. If not, you might want to question the piece.

As to where they came from, they could have been displayed in record label offices, recording studios, artist manager's offices, radio stations, private collector's homes and yes, of course, possibly the artist's or songwriter's home. Typically, we don't know all the places they may have been over the years other than what we've stated in the description.
