Russ has been a compensated instructor, appraiser and speaker for the states of Wisconsin and Illinois. He has been recognized by those states as the Midwest's leading authority on Indian artifacts. Russ has been recommended by the University of Iowa Archeological Dept to appraise various items brought to them, resulting in the owners having Midwest Auctions selling their collections

Selling part one of a large beadwork and Misc Indian items from the Milan Illinois collection of Jewell Beranek also selling part two of the large flint point estate collection of the Peoria Illinois' collection of Donald Cook and part one flint and stone collection of the Tipton Iowa collection of Ronald Lamp as well as more of the Missouri collection. Most flint points have not been sent for certificates of authenticity. Most collectors like to use their own opinions as to authenticity.
