Title: Pair of Victorian Royal Portrait Frosted Crystal and Mirror Plaques
Description: Pair of Victorian Royal Portrait Frosted Crystal and Mirror Plaques

England, circa 1860

A decorative pair of Victorian oval wall plaques depicting profile portraits of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.

Each plaque centres a finely modelled frosted crystal portrait mounted against a mirrored ground, surrounded by a border of silvered glass spheres and enclosed within burgundy velvet-covered oval frames.
The portraits are sensitively executed, with Queen Victoria shown in profile and Prince Albert depicted with his characteristic whiskers and formal attire.

The combination of mirrored glass, frosted crystal and velvet reflects the rich decorative taste of the Victorian period and the popularity of royal imagery within fashionable interiors.
The reverse construction, retaining early timber backing boards and original hanging fittings, is consistent with 19th-century manufacture.

Decorative and unusual, the pair possess considerable visual impact and remain highly representative of Victorian royal commemorative art.

Condition

Good antique condition with age-related wear.
Minor marks to the mirror plates, some wear to the velvet surrounds and visible historic adhesive around the portrait panels, all consistent with age and use.
The plaques appear substantially original throughout.
