Brand: Gorham,Age: 1904,Country of Origin: United States,Composition: Sterling Silver Set of 4 Antique 1904 Gorham Sterling Silver Candlesticks, Fluted Column Presented is a set of four antique sterling silver candlesticks made by Gorham in 1904, in a classical English form. Each candlestick has a square stepped base rising to a fluted column with a Corinthian capital. Beaded decoration runs along one step of the base and along the top near the bobeches. These are weighted candlesticks. The maker's mark has been buffed out above the word Sterling, a practice that was fairly common historically when a retailer preferred not to show the manufacturer's mark. The product number below matches Gorham's numbering, and a lyre year mark confirms the year 1904. The underside carries a retailer's mark for Black, Starr and Frost, the prominent New York City retailer. Condition is excellent overall. There are a few marks to the fluting on two of the candlesticks, along with minor dings along the bases, though none have ever been dropped and all four stand perfectly vertical. Height is 8 1/4 inches, base is 4 1/8 inches square.
