It seems that Dali arrived in America on board the Liner Francia where he was greeted by many friends and colleagues such as the poet and composer, Reginald Ethiopia Simones and his friend and faithful agent Captain John Peter Moore. The photo shows Moore holding a pet Ocelot watched by Dali with the port holes of the ship behind them. This is a surrealistic scene which would have appealed to Dali. This is obviously part of a series of photographs and the note does not describe the scene exactly. Another photograph we have shows the same stamp but other parties portrayed. The Ocelot was a favoutie pet and its name was Babou. On one occasion Dali took his pet ocelot to a fashionable New York restaurant and tied its lead to a leg of his table prior to ordering. A woman, walking past, stopped and protested at the fact that wild animals were being allowed in. Dali calmly replied that it was only a cat that he d painted in op-art style. Recognising Dali, the woman became embarrassed and looked closer. Now I can see it is a cat, she said. At first, I thought it was an ocelot.
