Rare Bateman Frog

Description

Patented in 1958 by Robert E. Bateman of North Girard, Pennsylvania, this bait conforms exactly to Figure 4 of the original patent drawing. Believed to be intentionally left without the plastic leg portion to show the interior wiring, this mottled pearl finished frog is otherwise complete, VG/VG+ (chipping, soiling, age lines), with red glass bead spacers, good glass eyes and dual spinners. It is doubtful this unique lure was produced in any quantity as they are extremely hard to find, especially in this larger size, which was previously unknown to its inclusion in Lang's Fall 2014 auction. Even with a few condition issues this is a truly important bait.
