Ein Mann mit unstrukturierter Kurzhaarfrisur gekleidet in eine knoechellange, langaermlige, glatt herabfallende Tunika auf einem niedrigen Thron sitzend. Beide Arme sind mit nach vorne gerichteten Handflaechen angewinkelt. Restaurierter Sprung auf der Seite, sonst offenbar komplett. Provenienz: Ex Ifergan collection (Malaga). Es koennte sich dabei einerseits um einen Epiphaniegestus einer Gottheit handeln, oder aber um einen Adorationsgestus eines Beters. Im vorliegenden Fall ist schon aufgrund des Throns eher an eine Gottheit zu denken. Phoenician terracotta figure of an enthroned man (Melquart?). About 1st half 5th century BC or earlier. Reddish-brown terracotta, H 70cm. Restored crack at the back, seemingly complete. The gesture of the raised hand is found several times among the figures from the shipwreck. It could be either an epiphany gesture of a deity, or a gesture of adoration by a worshipper. In the present case, the presence of the throne suggests a deity.
