Trevey, London, mid-18th century Each with turn-off cannon barrel, breech engraved 'LONDON' along the top, foliate engraved tang, border engraved rounded lock signed in capitals beneath the steel-spring, figured half-stock carved with a shell behind the barrel tang, steel trigger-guard, cast and chased silver mounts comprising pierced trophy of arms side-plate, vacant foliate escutcheon, and grotesque mask butt-cap, London proof marks. 17.5 cm. barrel Footnotes: Nathaniel Trevey was apprenticed for John Sibley in 1703. He is recorded as Gunmaker, Flower de Luce Ct., Fleet Street, London, between 1740 and 1752, and was contractor to Ordnance between 1743-1749 Thomas Gibson was apprenticed to Stephen Chalkley in 1735, and free of the Gunmakers' Company in 1742.
