A group of six various 19th and 20th century shotgun and rifle cases with trade label for Boss, Whitworth and Purdey Comprising a leather covered shot gun case lined in red baize, an oak double gun case with brass bound corners, the outside of the case stapled J.B.D Scots Greys, the lid with trade label for Thomas Boss, most of the interior removed, remnants of green baize, stamped '1635' and '1636', an oak gun case with steel bands and brass swing handle, stamped to the lid J.B Dunear Pitgavin', the lid with trade label inscribed 'Wallace Gun maker Edinburgh', interior stripped, an oak rifle case with fitted interior, bearing a trade label for Whitworth Rifle Company Sackville street Manchester', an oak case with brass bound corners, the interior fitted and lined in red baize, the lid bearing a trade label for Forsyth & co, Leicester square London, and an early 19th century mahogany case, with fitted interior the lid bearing a trade label for Purdey 31 Oxford street London numbered 1919, (6). Brander-Dunbar was the inspiration for John Buchan's 'John MacNab', who waged £20 that he could poach a stag from an Estate owner without being caught.
