An unusual George III battle of the Nile snuffbox by Samuel Pemberton, Birmingham, 1805 The cover engraved a sphinx, a crocodile, sea serpents, crocodiles and a sphinx on a prick dot ground, the base with stylised Egyptian Hieroglyphics, the sides with a Greek key band, 5.1cm wide, together with a George III novelty vinaigrette, by Joseph Willmore, Birmingham, 1819, formed as a purse and engraved with bands to simulate a textile pattern, the gilt grille pierced and engraved with an urn, scrolls and foliage, contained in fitted box, 3.8cm wide, weight 1.7oz. (2) Footnotes: Following the loss of Admiral Lord Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 there was an outpouring of grief for the national hero. Various souvenirs were made which celebrated his Egyptian Campaigns, predominantly the Battle of the Nile.
