Schnell Penselpen fountain pen, pencil combinations (2). Schnell Penselpen fountain pen/pencil combinations. Schnell's rise to fame was their popular airplane clip (propeller front, wings and raised tail end), it was reported that Parker attempted to purchase the clip design and that Julius Schnell, the inventor of the clip, turned them down. The clip was designed days after Charles Lindbergh's transatlantic flight and capitalized on the insatiable appetite for all things airplane. Schnell also was a great self-promoter and took credit for starting the pen/pencil combination craze of the late 1920's-1930's where nearly all manufacturers made at least one pen/pencil combination. They are uncommon today and prized by collectors, in this catalog we have a small collection of Schnell items in different sizes and colours. These examples in standard length, black and pearl in the slimmer of two widths for this size. One with Schnell 14K extra fine nib, the other with warranted 14K nib. Overall mixed as is condition, black and pearl with crack to barrel threads and name engraving on barrel, black and bronze with some material missing from lip of cap.
