A Fars brass bowl Persia, 14th Century of rounded form with inverted sides, engraved with a series of cartouches filled with inscriptions in thuluth interspersed by roundels containing enthroned figures with attendants, all on a ground of foliate interlace, the lower register with a band of pendant palmettes and lobed cartouches, ownership inscription to base 24.8 cm. diam. Footnotes: Inscriptions: to cartouches, al-'izz li-mawlana al-sultan/ al-a'zam malik riqab al-u[mam] /al-sultan al-salatin / al-'arab wa al-'ajam al-'alim al-a/, 'Glory to our lord, the most great Sultan, the Sultan of all Sultans of the Arabs and non-Arabs, the learned al-a'; to base, 'Its owner Haji Ja'far'.
