A calligraphic album page in nasta'liq, mentioning Nawab Mir 'Uthman 'Ali Khan Bahadur, the last Nizam of Hyderabad (reg. 1911-50), when a prince, and apparently presented to his father, Mir Mahbub Ali Khan Hyderabad, dated AH 1312/AD 1894-95 Persian manuscript on paper, two couplets written diagonally in nasta'liq in black ink within cartouches against an illuminated floral ground, two lobed medallions at top and bottom, illuminated floral outer border, verso with date 323 x 212 mm. Footnotes: Provenance Christie's South Kensington, Arts and Textiles of the Islamic and Indian Worlds, 10th October 2014, lot 65. The main text is a benedictory quatrain in Persian addressed to Mir 'Uthman 'Ali, the future Nizam of Hyderabad, mentioning 'Wednesday of [the month of] Safar', and ending with 'For the attention of the Prince of High Fortune, Nawab Mir 'Uthman 'Ali Khan Bahadur, may his prosperity be eternal'. He succeeded his father Mahbub 'Ali Khan Asaf Jah VI, whose name appears on the reverse of the page. The note on the reverse reads: 'Presented to Mahbub Nawaz Jang 1312/1894-95'. Mahbub Nawaz Jang was the father of Mir 'Uthman 'Ali Asaf Jah, Nizam of Hyderabad (1866-1911). The page was therefore apparently presented to Mahbub Nawaz Jang when his son Uthman 'Ali Khan, the Nizam, was about ten years old.
