It had sixteen lithograph illustrations by Hamerton. Osborne was Military Secretary to his uncle, Lord Auckland, in India. In the spring and summer of 1838, he was posted to the Punjab with orders to prepare for the diplomatic mission to Maharajah Ranjit Singh.
