A brass box and cover for the Islamic market China, 16th/ 17th Century of cylindrical form, the flat cover cast to the top with a roundel containing an inscription in Arabic, the roundel surrounded by partial flowerhead motifs, all on a ring-punched ground 10.2 cm. diam. Footnotes: Inscriptions: al-hamdulillah, 'Praise be to God'. The present lot is inscribed in sini, an Arabic script developed in the early Ming dynasty.
