An Iznik style porcelain jug Possibly Samson, Paris, 20th Century of tapering form with eight facetted sides, slanted rim and simple handle, decorated in raised red, cobalt-blue, green and black outline on a white ground with alternating panels of lobed cartouches and floral interlace including carnations and tulips, floral motif to base 18.7 cm. high Footnotes: Whilst the decoration of the present lot reflects Iznik design, the shape is probably a pastiche of Safavid models which themselves were based on Dutch prototypes. For discussion on these transcontinental styles, see Yolanda Crowe, 'The Safavid Potter at the Crossroad of Styles' in Iran and the World in the Safavid Age, London 2007. For examples of Safavid facetted jugs, see the British Museum, inv. no. G.324 and the Victoria and Albert Museum, inv. no. 897-1876.
