The Fourth edition, variant with Chiswell's name in the imprint, engraved frontispiece portrait of Shakespeare by Martin Droeshout above Ben Jonson's verse, woodcut ornament on title-page, large decorative initials, title restored at blank inner margin, one corner and short tear closed, title and the following two leaves (A1-2) restored at upper margin affecting the rule border, leaf (A3) with small repair at inner upper corner touching printed rule border, final leaf (4C2) restored at upper and inner margin slightly affecting rule border without loss, a few leaves (F4, H2, 2G1, 2I3/4. 3Z5, 3C6) with tears into the text neatly repaired without loss, minor restoration to lower inner corner of 206, and 2Q3-5 touching rule border, short tear to upper margin of 3X5 touching letters, a few other leaves with minor repairs at lower margin not touching text, very small burn to a few leave (those on S5, 2R1 and 3D1 just touching 2 letters), a few other minor spots, marks or stains, a few small ink corrections to signatures, good margins throughout, modern calf gilt, red morocco spine label, a light abrasions, calf-backed solander box [ESTC R202288; Pforzheimer 910], folio (356 x 228mm.), Printed [by Robert Roberts and others] for H. Herringman, E. Brewster, R. Chiswell, and R. Bentley, 1685 Footnotes: FOURTH FOLIO EDITION OF SHAKESPEARE'S PLAYS, considered the stateliest of the four seventeenth-century folio editions. It was printed on demy paper, being large than the three previous folio editions. The title-page was printed in three issues, this being the second issue to which the name of Richard Chiswell is added to those of Herringman, Edward Brewster, and Richard Bentley.
