NAPOLEON BONAPARTE Imperial Passe-port signed ('Napoleon'), authorising Mme Jacquemin, widow Gordon, residing in Florence, to go to England on any licensed vessel departing from the ports of Calais or Morlaix, her description and signature in left hand column, countersigned by the Secretary of State and Chief of Police, pencil notes in later hand, one page on vellum, printed with manuscript insertions, dust-staining and marks, creased, red wax seal, official stamps and endorsements to verso, framed and glazed, folio (371 x 245mm.), with frame 397 x 270mm., Saint Cloud, 15 September 1810 Footnotes: The endorsements on the verso of our document show that Mme Jacquemin travelled from Florence to Paris via Milan in September 1813, where the question arose as to whether her passeport was still valid after three years. It was then further stamped at Turin and Morlaix, from whence she, presumably, was allowed to depart. Morlaix in Finistère was the location for significant diplomatic negotiations between the French and British for the exchange of prisoners of war and the fate of British detenus, British civilians detained in France since 1803.
