BARRIE (J.M.) Autograph letter signed ('J.M. Barrie') to Reginald Golding Bright ('My dear Golding'), confirming '...I think that arrangements for Peter Pan at the Winter Gardens Theatre this year would be good, Miss Dickson to be Peter...' and asking for a '...flat royalty of 10%...', one page, light dust-staining, creased at folds, two filing holes top edge, window mounted, 8vo (179 x 136mm.), 190 x 145mm. with mount, Adelphi Terrace House, W.C.2, 15 September 1926; with autograph envelope (2) Footnotes: 'MISS DICKSON TO BE PETER': J.M. BARRIE MAKES PLANS FOR THE REVIVAL OF PETER PAN. Reginald Golding Bright (1875-1941) was the brother of Arthur Addison Bright (1861-1906), theatrical agent and friend of Barrie and other playwrights such as Conan Doyle, and it was Arthur Bright who first brought Peter Pan to the stage in 1904. In 1906 Arthur Bright was accused of embezzling royalties from many of his clients, including Barrie and Doyle and, with shameful legal proceedings imminent, he committed suicide on a trip to Lucerne in May of that year. On his brother's death, Reginald Bright, also a theatrical agent, took over Barrie's account and oversaw several revivals of the hugely successful play. The 1926 production, to which this letter refers, ran at the Adelphi from 1926-1927 and did indeed star the American actress Dorothy Dickson (1896-1995) as Peter Pan as Barrie here suggests.
