Srimati Priyadarshini Lal (1959 – 2019): She was a prominent art curator and critic who specialised as an expert authority on Indian Modern and Contemporary Art. Her most significant curatorial focus was her deep, definitive expertise on Francis Newton Souza, the iconic founder of the Progressive Artists' Group, for whom she served as a late-career muse, confidant, and primary exhibition essayist.

This line drawing by Souza depicts a stylized faceted head articulated through angular, fragmented contours. The emphatic linearity and schematic treatment of the body reflect Souza's modernist expressionist idiom, privileging gestural line and psychological intensity over naturalistic representation.
