Because of his exhaustive geographical mappings and surveys, the Royal Geographical Society (RGS) of London honored him by electing him a Fellow (F.R.G.S.).
He completed 23 parikramas (circumambulations) of Mount Kailash and 25 parikramas of Lake Manasarovar, including 7 grueling winter treks when the lake surface was completely frozen.
