This piece produced in the Ravi Varma Press shows King Nara's wife Damayanti and Hamsa, the bird of love, from the great Indian epic "Mahabarata," based on Varma's oil painting. It portrays Damayanti in conversation with a Hansa (swan), which is acting as a messenger from Nala. The painting captures the moment when the swan is telling Damayanti about Nala's praises and love for her. Damayanti is shown standing near an ornate pillar in a lotus pond, listening intently to the swan perched on the pillar.
