David Bowie: A Personally Handmade Wooden Coffee Table, circa 1961-62, wooden top in the shape of an artist's palette, raised on three legs which screw in, accompanied by a signed letter of provenance from George Underwood (Bowie's childhood friend), together with vintage photograph of Bowie, approx. 13 1/2in (34cm) × 16 1/2in (42cm) x 12 3/4in (32cm) high Footnotes: Provenance: Acquired by vendor's grandmother in 1973 from Mrs. Peggy Jones, David Bowie's mother, who lived opposite her on Albemarle Road in Beckenham, Kent. This early piece of David Bowie art was produced while David (Jones) attended Bromley Technical High School. The table was made between approximately 1961 and 1962 under the guidance of Bowie's woodworking teacher, Mr. Fogg. It was designed in the shape of an artist's palette. In addition, a poem written by Bowie during his school years references the artist's palette table; this poem was later published in Pop Gossip, Jackie Magazine (Issue No. 311, December 20th, 1969).
