The Rolling Stones: A Poster For The Cancelled Shows At Cardiff And Pembroke Castles, Saturday, 22nd September, 1973, original first printing, signed by the artist in the lower right corner, 29 1/2in x 19 1/2in (75cm x 49cm) Footnotes: Regarded by many as one of the best Stones concert posters, this was designed by Australian-born freelance artist, Kate Burness, who was living and working in London in 1973. In an interview with Radio New Zealand in 2014, she recalled that her fee for the commission was modest and that Mick Jagger liked the design so much that she sold the original art to him. This poster was obtained directly from the artist by the vendor, being one of three she had kept, and it is thought to be the only example signed by her. A small sample of the silver border was cut out of this poster by the artist in order to colour-match a limited edition of 73. The planned concerts fell foul of Pembrokeshire Borough Council, who denied permission for the events to take place due to concerns over health and safety issues. It was feared that the anticipated number of people attending the concerts would lead to the area being shut down and local facilities being overwhelmed. Following the cancellation of the concerts, the already-printed posters were pulped with just a small number surviving.
