Jenny's daywear costumes Season 1, Various Episodes The first: an embroidered vintage silk apron; with a cream linen skirt with added mud effects to the hem; linen underskirt with horizontal patterned detailing, with production-created mud to hem; cream linen bodice with ribbons down the centre; and a floral vintage shawl, The second: a custom-made skirt in two tones, blue and brown, with Outlander label inscribed in black ink 'S1 Jenny'; with a blue bodice fastened from the front with hook-and-eye, and floral lace trim and velvet trim; and a corset; bum roll with attached hip frill; with black suede lace-up ankle boots, size 4; with cream fichu, (Qty) Footnotes: Jenny's costumes in Outlander were designed to be period-correct and deliberately traditional. The first costume is seen during the reunion of Jamie and Jenny at Lallybroch, and again in the graveyard scene where the siblings speak privately, though in this scene she wears a cape that covers the costume. Its restrained, historically grounded design reinforces Jenny's stability and moral authority within the narrative. The second costume represents a complete ensemble and is associated with the scene depicting Black Jack Randall's assault on Jenny. This sequence was filmed in a deliberately dark interior setting. Costume designer Terry Dresbach later noted that the production team learned early in the series that interior scenes were often shot in very low light, which could result in actors' heads appearing visually disconnected from their bodies on screen. To counteract this, costumes were designed to catch and reflect light. The skirt's two-tone construction was therefore intentional, ensuring visual depth and movement on camera and preventing the costume from appearing flat during filming. Literature: The first: T. Bennett, The Making of Outlander: The Official Guide to Seasons 1 & 2, Delacorte Press, 2016, illustrated, p. 113. Please note that the second costume was shot with an underskirt, which was not included in the lot.
