Claire's WWII military uniform Season 1, Episode 3, 'The Way Out' Comprising: a custom-made military-style jacket in khaki-coloured wool with brass buttons, with four to the centre and one to each breast pocket; together with a matching A-line skirt with an Outlander label; a khaki-coloured cotton shirt; and a khaki-coloured wool army cap, with a central badge bearing a cross; accompanied by a pair of brown leather Oxford-style shoes, inscribed '7' to the sole in felt-tip; and a brown wool tie labelled 'Claire', (6) Footnotes: This costume was worn during a flashback scene where Frank sends Claire off to the front. This was an important flashback that re-established Frank and Claire's relationship, despite Claire being far away from Frank, with swathes of time separating them. This scene was included in an attempt to encourage the audience to support Claire and Frank, as well as Claire and Jamie. The audience needed to understand Claire's dilemma of being caught between two timeframes and two men. Please note that the tie within this lot is not original to this costume. It was worn in production but was associated with an alternative look from Season 2, known as 'The Combat Suit'. Literature: T. Bennett, The Making of Outlander: The Official Guide to Seasons 1 & 2, Delacorte Press, 2016, illustrated, p. 50.
