Marsali's gingham daywear, worn during the locust swarm on the Ridge Season 5, Episode 6, 'Better to Marry Than Burn' Comprising: a custom-made bodice in lavender and blue gingham, with matching linen skirt, which features slits in the sides, as the skirt would have included pocket bags, (2) Footnotes: Trisha Biggar notes that tartan was proscribed in Britain at this time, after the 1745 uprising. People who went to America often took oaths to the King and were not supposed to wear tartan. While not against the law in America, they were not wearing 'tartan' per se - they wore check or gingham, and would not have referred to it as tartan. The fabric of this dress is a cotton gingham. The gingham has been meticulously matched throughout, demonstrating a very high level of skill in the cutting and construction of the garment. This was one of the first dresses that Anne Sophie Hotot, the women's cutter, made after Biggar took over at the start of Season 5. At the first fitting, Biggar noticed the quality of the work, as a check like this is difficult to match across seams and pattern pieces. Any complex stripes, checks or patterns, the team knew the making was in safe hands.
